No time like the present.

What is a departure time for, exactly? You have to arrive at your flight well before it, so it's not an instruction to board, and they clearly shut the doors by 9:35. And our pilot has just vouchsafed that our 9:45am flight has an air traffic control departure time of 10:15. There is nothing on this flight for which 9:45 is relevant. Anyone know what the point is?
